Development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan

On July 15, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani.

The sides noted with satisfaction the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. According to the results of five months of this year, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by 50 percent. 160 enterprises with the participation of Afghan capital have been re-established in Uzbekistan.

The importance of further promotion of transport projects aimed at expanding the transit potential of Afghanistan, in particular, the implementation of projects for the construction of the «Termez – Mazar-I – Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar» railway and the construction of a new «Surkhan – Puli – Khumri» power transmission line, was noted.
