Discussion on ensuring the safety of vehicles equipped with gas cylinders

The plenary session of the Senate addressed the issue of sending a parliamentary inquiry to the Cabinet of Ministers on the state of safety of vehicles equipped with gas cylinders and the implementation of relevant legislation.

A study by the Senate Defense and Security Committee encountered that a number of factors contributed to the negative impact of the explosion of vehicles equipped with gas cylinders.

Particularly, it was noted that the number of cases of illegal installation of gas appliances in vehicles and their failure to pass opportune technical inspections is proliferating on an annual basis, which has led to serious vehicle explosions.

Precisely, in 2021, 2,928 cases of illegal installation of gas appliances in vehicles (not meeting the requirements of current technical regulations) were detected, which was 61% more than in 2020.

There were 14 explosions and 2 fires in vehicles with gas cylinders, in which 9 people were injured and 14 were killed.

The senators decided to send a parliamentary inquiry to the Government on these issues.
