Discussion on prospects of intensifying Uzbek-Italian relations

Sardor Umurzakov, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, on May 27, 2022, in Rome.

The meeting served as an opportunity to review the current state of Uzbek-Italian relations and work out measures for their further enhancement. Discussing an extensive agenda of Uzbek-Italian interaction, the sides paid a particular attention to measures to further build up investment, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Shared interest in bilateral trade has been facilitated, with trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Italy boosting by 25% in 2021. Growth trends have also been observed in the first quarter of 2022 due to a proliferation in supplies of textiles, foodstuffs, leather goods, equipment and other goods.
The sides considered further joint actions to burgeon bilateral trade and agreed to intensify work in this direction.

Sides also canvassed interaction in the energy sector, regional cooperation, measures on preparation for bilateral events, including the next meeting of the Uzbek-Italian Intergovernmental Working Group on Commercial, Economic and Industrial Cooperation.
