Double expansion in enterprises invested by Uzbekistan and the USA

S. Umurzakov, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade, met with a delegation led by Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu.

During the discussion, the fundamental concerns of political and economic partnership between the two countries were canvassed. It was noted that in recent years, remarkable progress has been made in all areas of bilateral cooperation, which was established during the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the US in May 2018.

According to statistics, commercial transaction between the two nations climbed by 48.5 % in the first 11 months of 2021 compared to the same time in 2020. It was also observed that the number of US-invested firms in Uzbekistan has more than doubled of late.

Within the meeting, the sides discussed the proposal to hold a business forum for business representatives in the first half of 2022 in collaboration with the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce (AUCC).

Representatives of the two countries also considered opportunities to expand cooperation between the United States International Development Finance
Corporation (DFC) and the Direct Investment Fund of Uzbekistan.

At the end, the parties expressed alacrity to resume active dialogue on all issues reviewed in order to accelerate the promotion of the envisaged program and initiatives.
