Former Andijan hokim sentenced to 10 years in prison

The verdict was passed against former Andijan Hokim Bakhrom Khaidarov and 45 defendants accused of embezzlement of 63 billion soums from the state budget.
According to the information service of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the open trial ended on December 26 in a criminal case against the Andijan regional authorities and a number of officials who had caused damage to the state budget.
B. Khaidaroy was accused of committing crimes under paragraphs "a" and "c" of Part 3 of Section 167 of the Criminal Code (theft by embezzlement), paragraphs "a" and "b" of Part 2 of Section 209 (forgery in office) and Section 243 (legalisation of proceeds from criminal activity). Having found him guilty, he was sentenced to 10 years' deprivation of liberty with deprivation of the right to hold positions of official and material responsibility for 3 years, with partial compounding of the sentences imposed under Section 59 of the Criminal Code. A fine of 350 times the base calculation amount, namely 85,750,000 sums, was also imposed.
The other 44 defendants were found guilty of offences under sections 167, 168, 205, 207, 208, 209, 211, 28, 211, 228 and 243 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to deprivation of liberty for 4 to 10 years, restriction of liberty for up to 2 years and correctional measures for 2 to 3 years.
Over 16 billion sums of material damage caused by the offence were covered, and the rest of the damage was determined to be recoverable from the defendants jointly.
