Former chairman of the KNB of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov sentenced to 18 years in prison

The Specialized Inter-district Court for Criminal Cases of the city of Astana sentenced the former chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan, Karim Massimov, to 18 years in prison. He was found guilty of high treason, violent seizure of power, abuse of office.

According to local publications, Karim Masimov's property is confiscated, deprived of the right to hold positions in the public service, and deprived of all titles and state awards for life.

Recall that by the decree of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dated January 5, 2022, Karim Masimov was relieved of the post of chairman of the KNB due to unrest in the country. January 8 Massimov was arrested on suspicion of high treason. On November 7, the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan sent a criminal case against Massimov to court.
