Founder of a sovereign and independent country

Today, 30 January, is the birthday of Islam Karimov, the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. If Islam Abduganievich were alive, today would be his 85th birthday.
Islam Karimov, the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was born on 30 January 1938 in Samarkand.
On March 24, 1990, at the session of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR, Islam Karimov was elected the First President of the Uzbek SSR. On August 31, 1991, Karimov proclaimed a historic event - the state sovereignty of the Republic of Uzbekistan. On December 29, 1991 I. Karimov was elected President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the general elections, conducted on the alternative basis.
Islam Karimov was awarded the title of Hero of Uzbekistan, the Order of Mustaqillik and the Amir Temur Order for his great contribution to building a sovereign and independent Uzbekistan, establishing a rule-of-law People's Democratic State, ensuring civil peace and national accord, and displaying courage and persistence.
Islam Karimov, the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, passed away on 2 September 2016 at the age of 78 in Tashkent. He was buried on 3 September 2016 in Samarkand.
