Historically significant Samarkand summit

As we reported earlier, an important political event of international scale took place in Samarkand on November 11, "The First Summit of the Organization of Turkic States". The summit was attended by the leadership of 5 member states-Uzbekistan, Turkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan as well as 2 observers-Turkmenistan and Hungary.
In accordance with the agenda of the meeting, the heads of states discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The issues of strengthening interconnectivity, expanding cooperation in tourism, energy and agriculture were considered. Particular attention was paid to the development of effective mechanisms of cooperation between the regions in science and education, technology and innovation.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his speech thanked the summit participants for supporting the initiative to declare the city of Samarkand, which is a symbol of peace and friendship, the center of science and education, the "capital of Turkic civilization".
It is worth noting that at the summit the President of Uzbekistan put forward an initiative to create a "New territory of economic opportunities" within the OTS. He also proposed holding an annual "International Turkic Economic Forum" with broad participation of representatives of member and observer countries, as well as the world's leading businessmen, and next year an "International Youth Congress of the Turkic world in the field of science and innovation".
At the end of the summit the heads of states signed more than 10 documents. The main document of the event was the Declaration of the Samarkand Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, which reflected the positions of the member states on the most important regional and global issues.
On the proposal of the President of Kazakhstan it was agreed to hold the summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Kazakhstan in 2023.
It is worth noting that the term of office of Baghdad Kultayevich Amreev, who served as Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States for the past three years, has come to an end. The decision was made to approve Kubanichbek Omuraliev as the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States.
Also during the summit an event was held on Registan Square to plant seedlings as part of the "Green Space" project with the participation of heads of member states and observers of the organization.
