Instagram fined a record amount

Ireland's data protection regulator DPS has fined 405 million euros to the Instagram social network.
“A record amount of this fine was the result of an investigation into the processing of information about children,” the representative of the Supervisory Authority noted.
The investigation into the social network began in 2020. The Irish regulator completed work on the final decision project on Instagram verification in December 2021.
A spokesman for the DPC said that the regulator made the final decision last Friday, September 2. It is noted that the full text of the decision will be published by mid-September.
“Instagram plans to file a complaint against the fine,” the Meta representative said via email.
The Meta press secretary added that Instagram updated its settings more than a year ago and has since launched new features to ensure the safety and privacy of teenagers.
P.S. DPC regulates the activities of Facebook, Apple, Google and other technology giants — their headquarters in the European Union is located in Ireland.
