Italy has declared a state of emergency due to the influx of migrants

The Italian government has declared a state of emergency in the country due to the large flow of immigrants. The condition lasts for six months. This is reported by the publication DW.

It is noted that the most affected southern regions of the country will receive assistance in the amount of 5 million euros. These funds will be used to open new refugee reception centers.

Along with the opening of such centers during the state of emergency, the procedure for the deportation of illegal migrants will be simplified.

However, the Minister of Civil Defense and Maritime Policy of Italy, Nello Musumeci, said that the measures taken were not enough, and asked for help from the European Union to resolve this migration crisis.

According to official data, more than 31 thousand illegal immigrants have arrived in Italy since the beginning of the year. During the same period last year, only about 7,900 refugees are trying to move from old Tunisia and Libya across the Mediterranean to southern Italy and Malta.
