Jahongir Ortikhojaev ended his term as deputy ahead of schedule

The term of office of former Tashkent hokim Jahongir Ortikhojaev as a deputy of the city Kengash ended prematurely. The Kengash city council made the decision today, January 27. It was reported that the former hokim himself applied for termination of his deputy powers.

In January 2020, Jahongir Ortikhojaev was elected as a deputy of the Kengash from the 48th electoral district from the UzLiDep party, and then as a senator for a five-year term. He was elected to serve until January 2025.

Under the law, a deputy's term of office ends early in the following cases:

    if he submits a written declaration of resignation;
    if he or she is elected or appointed to a position that is incompatible with the exercise of his or her powers as a deputy or senator as prescribed by law
    If he has been convicted by a court of law of an offence against him;
    if he has been recalled;
    If he has been declared legally incompetent by a court;
    If he has been declared missing or declared dead on the basis of a valid ruling of a court
    If he loses his Uzbek citizenship;
    In the event of his death;
    In the event of the dissolution of the Chamber.

In some cases the powers of a deputy may be prematurely terminated by decision of the appropriate council of peoples' deputies. The grounds for considering such a question may be actions denigrating the high standing of the deputy.
