Kazakhstan introduces four-day work week in July

From July 2023, a four-day work week will be introduced in Kazakhstan. This is provided for by the law "On the introduction of amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on social security issues," signed by the President of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tukayev. In accordance with this Law, among other changes, paragraph 3 of Article 71 of the Labor Code is supplemented with the second part of the following content: “by agreement of the parties, it is allowed to establish a four-day working week in an employment contract with the right to replace it with a five-day or six-day working week.”
At the same time, according to paragraph 2 of Art. 78 of the Labor Code, the maximum amount of overtime work is divided into four and five-day working weeks.
“When establishing a generalized accounting of working time, the total duration of overtime work for a four-day, five-day and six-day working week should not exceed twelve hours per month and one hundred and twenty hours per year.”
