Language is a great treasure and an invaluable heritage of the nation

On 21 October 1989, "The State Language Law" was adopted, granting Uzbek language the status of the state language.

Our mother tongue, one of the sacred values of our people, was given its legal status and protection.

A new version of the Act was adopted by Act No. 167-I of 21 December 1995 "On amendments and additions to the State Language Act".

Under Law No 364-XII of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 30 September 1991 "On introducing amendments to the Constitution (Fundamental Law) of the Uzbekistan SSR" the words "Uzbekistan SSR" in the title and text of this Law were replaced by the words "Republic of Uzbekistan" in the appropriate case.
