«Losers of the year»: Billionaires who have lost the most money in 2022

In 2022, five billionaires have lost record amounts, together their states have decreased by $378 billion, estimated U.S. Forbes. Among the "biggest losers" of the past year, the publication included Ilon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Musk heads the anti-rating, impoverished by a record $125 billion. In 2022, shares of Tesla, which forms the basis of the billionaire's capital, collapsed by 65%, and most of the fall occurred after the announcement of Musk's purchase of Twitter, writes Forbes USA. By the end of 2022, his fortune was estimated at $147 billion, but it had already fallen to $137 billion on January 3 and now stands at $140.5.

Second place among the biggest losers went to Bezos, the founder of Amazon Corporation. He has lost $85bn over the past year as shares in his IT giant have fallen by 50%. The decline in Amazon's stock price was 17 percentage points worse than the decline of the tech-focused Nasdaq stock exchange, notes US-based Forbes.

Zuckerberg's fortune fell by $77 billion. The value of shares in Meta, which he founded (recognised as extremist and banned in Russia), fell by 64% over the year amid investor doubts about the company's plans to focus on creating a meta-universe.

Fourth and fifth place in the anti-rating went to Google's founders. Page's fortune dropped by $46bn over the year, and Brin's by $45bn. Shares in their company, now known as Alphabet, have fallen 39% since the end of 2021, following a general decline in the IT market.
