Meeting with the delegation of the OSCE ODIHR

Today, on June 14, Vladimir Norov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, received a delegation of the OSCE for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. The delegation was led by Eogan Murphy, who led the ODIHR mission to observe the October 24, 2021 presidential election in Uzbekistan.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ODIHR.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has significantly intensified constructive cooperation with all OSCE institutions, including the ODIHR. The Bureau’s full-scale election observation missions participated in the parliamentary (2019) and presidential elections (2016 and 2021).

E. Murphy extolled the current state of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ODIHR, including the examination of adopted legislation and the improvement of legislation in line with international standards.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the implementation of the recommendations made in the final report of the ODIHR observation mission of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which took place on October 24, 2021. The parties expressed their alacrity for constructive cooperation in this area.
