Meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the leaders of the Association Uzcharmsanoat

On January 18, a meeting chaired by Sardor Umurzakov, the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was organized to discuss the current state of the leather and footwear industry and measures to encourage its further development.
During the meeting, the leadership of the Association provided information on current production and export indices, investment projects implemented and planned for this year, as well as job creation. In particular, the enterprises of the sector invested 4.4 trillion UZS in 2021. $ 423 million US worth of products were exported, $202 million US worth of investments were attracted, of which $ 76 million US of foreign direct investment. As part of the localization program, products worth 2 trillion UZS were manufactured. A total of 11.2 thousand new jobs have been created this year due to the implementation of projects.
Information was provided on the situation in the domestic and foreign markets of leather, footwear and leather goods, as well as promising areas for Uzbek producers to export their products. Targets for investment, production and exports have been presented this year and in the medium term. The main goals are to boost production to 4.8 trillion UZS by the end of 2022 and to export goods worth $ 450 million. It is also planned to implement 49 projects worth $ 214 million and create 12.5 thousand new jobs.
It was instructed to pay special attention to the analysis of imports and to formulate proposals for the localization of production of equipment, components and chemicals used in production and imported in this network.
It was noted that in order to participate in international industrial exhibitions, it is necessary to attract a wide range of domestic producers, as well as to establish business missions abroad to promote domestic products in foreign markets. Additionally, the magnitude of intensifying efforts to train personnel for the industry and improve the skills of employees of enterprises operating in our country was highlighted.
