Mercedes-Benz may sell its assets in Russia

The Mercedes-Benz automobile concern may sell the property of the branch of Mercedes-Benz Rus in Russia to one of the dealers.

It is noted that Panavto, Avtodom, Avilon and Major are among the potential buyers. According to the interlocutors of the publication, the transaction may be carried out through the scheme of transfer of distributor rights to the dealer. Also, Mercedes-Benz Rus can sell its car warehouse and dealership to dealers through auctions.

The potential deal does not include the Mercedes-Benz plant in Russia, which has been closed since March. Production has been suspended due to the attack on Ukraine and sanctions.
The company officially announced that it is considering various options for doing business in Russia. The automaker explained that "there are no concrete decisions yet."

According to information, the Panavto dealer has the best chance to acquire the distributor rights or property of the Mercedes-Benz Rus company. It is noted that there is a "long-term good relationship" between the dealer and the concern.

Mercedes-Benz is the second most popular premium car brand in Russia (the first is BMW). At the end of 2021, the company sold 43 thousand cars in Russia. It is currently impossible to deliver Mercedes GL to Russia due to US sanctions.
