Merkel says her decision not to admit Ukraine to NATO is the right one

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel believes that the decision not to support Ukraine's accession to NATO in 2008 is correct.

A spokesman for the former prime minister told the German news agency DPA on April 4.

According to the German news agency DPA, then-German Chancellor and then-French President Nicolas Sarkozy blocked Ukraine's accession to NATO.

"Former Chancellor Angela Merkel supports the decisions of the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest," the statement said.
