Multilateral cooperation between EBRD and Uzbekistan

On March 22, 2022, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade S. Umurzakov met with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso, who arrived in our country to participate in the Tashkent International Investment Forum.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of deepening cooperation between the EBRD and Uzbekistan in priority areas.
In particular, the sides considered measures to implement the EBRD Country Strategy for 2018-2023, which includes supporting the development of the private sector, expanding regional and international cooperation, promoting solutions for clean energy and resources in all sectors of the economy.
The current state of investment cooperation was studied. At present, the total portfolio of projects implemented in Uzbekistan with the involvement of EBRD financial resources is € 1.7 billion consists of 57 projects worth. The parties discussed further joint efforts to accelerate the promotion of current projects, as well as important aspects of new project initiatives planned to be signed within the Tashkent International Investment Forum.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening cooperation in the textile industry. The EBRD President welcomed the lifting of the boycott of Uzbek textiles announced by the Cotton Campaign International Coalition and expressed readiness to assist in attracting foreign private sector companies to implement projects in Uzbekistan.
