NATO Secretary General visits Ukraine

Today, on April 20, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg paid an unannounced unofficial visit to Ukraine. This was reported by the Financial Times. This visit is the first since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

During his visit, Stoltenberg visited a monument to soldiers who died in the war in the center of Kiev. He also met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and other officials.

"This visit by Jens Stoltenberg was the first since the beginning of the large-scale war. We interpret it as a sign that the alliance is ready to start a new page in relations with Ukraine - a page of ambitious solutions," Zelensky said.

The visit came a day before a meeting in Germany to coordinate Western military aid to Kiev, where Stoltenberg is expected to call on allies to speed up arms deliveries, according to the newspaper.

"It is in our security interests to support Ukraine. Because if [Russia] wins, President Putin will put the world in even greater danger," Stoltenberg told reporters at the meeting.
