Negotiations were held with the Director General of the Middle East and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan

On April 20, 2022, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev held talks with the Director General of the Middle East and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Kansuke Nagaoka.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in the field of Afghanistan, in particular, the development of the current situation in this country.

The high-ranking Japanese diplomat praised Uzbekistan's efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and economic assistance to Afghanistan.

Nagaoka noted that Uzbekistan and Japan have similar positions and approaches to the new Afghan government.

In this regard, it was stressed that the Interim Government of Afghanistan must meet the basic requirements of the international community, in particular, to ensure the rights of women and national minorities, to form a government based on broad representation.

The Japanese side also offered a constructive exchange of views on the Afghan issue within the Central Asia-Japan Dialogue Group.
