A new type of omicron strain has been detected in Africa that is very challenging to detect with existing tests. A new subspecies of Omicron, BA.2, is found in Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal and South Africa
Pursuant to the data, a new species (BA.2) has also been identified in Denmark. According to Danish scientists, the distribution of small species has boosted.
Nixi Gumede-Moletsi notes that BA.2 is very tricky to detect because tests designed to identify the omicron strain cannot detect it.
"We are working with a number of laboratories around the world to get a clear picture of this small species" - he said.
The omicron strain, identified as BA.1, was first found in South Africa and Botswana last November. This rapidly spreading variant of COVID-19 induced another wave of coronavirus in the world.
