New opportunity for gender equality

Today, 19 October, the Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality together with the UNDP and the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan launched the "Gender Equality Award for Public Institutions" (GEPI) programme to promote women's empowerment and gender equality among public institutions.
The programme in Uzbekistan is the first of its kind in Central Asia. The main objective of the GEPI for GIs is to enable more gender-sensitive and effective public policies. The Award provides a tangible and practical framework for state institutions to strengthen their capacity and to make gender equality more effective and visible.
In particular, in her introductory remarks, Tanzila Narbayeva, Chair of the Senate, Chair of the Republican Commission on the Role of Women in Society, Gender Equality and Family, noted that the launch of this programme would open new horizons for state institutions in raising gender awareness and the successful implementation of the National Strategy on the Promotion of Gender Equality in Uzbekistan.
The Award will undoubtedly become an important factor in the formation of a successful women's community, which will be the optimal platform for the initiatives and potential of women in the public sector in Uzbekistan in practical solutions to the pressing problems and challenges of modern society.
