Nine candidates for the presidency of Turkmenistan

The nomination and registration of presidential candidates in Turkmenistan has been completed. According to the website of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan, 9 candidates have been registered, including the son of the incumbent President.

Turkmenistan's incumbent president has said he wants to give way to young people. Among the registered candidates is the incumbent's son, Sardor Berdymukhammedov, who is leading the race for the presidency.

Representatives of the Agrarian Party Agadjan Bekmirodov, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Babamirat Meredov, the Democratic Party Khydyr Nunnayev and Serdar Berdimuhamedov were awarded presidential certificates, and five others were registered from the initiative groups: Perhat Begenjov, Berdimammet Gurmanov, Makzageldiev and Maksatmirat Nakayev.

Turkmenistan will hold early presidential elections on March 12, where incumbent President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov will not attend.
Leading candidate: Serdar, the son of presidential leader Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, has been the country's first deputy prime minister since 2021.

He graduated from the Turkmen Agricultural University named after SA Niyazov. From 2008 to 2011, he studied International Relations at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Serdar, the only son of the incumbent president, heads the Akhalteke International Horse Breeding Association and the Turkmen Alabay International Association.
