Number of senators in Uzbekistan to drop from 100 to 65

The number of senators in Uzbekistan is changing from the current 100 to 65. The current procedure for forming the Senate is retained. This was announced by the Oliy Majlis at a meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
It was noted that the draft constitution was subjected to 12 substantive readings by the responsible committees with the participation of experts, scientists and politicians for the purpose of finalizing it. The responsible committees met nearly 40 times during the nationwide discussions.
"The state guarantees freedom of the media, and that obstruction or interference in the activities of the media is grounds for liability under the law," said Jahongir Shirinov, a member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and a member of the Constitutional Commission.
