Organization of Turkic States-15 facts you didn't know

There has been a lot of media coverage in recent days about the Organization of Turkic States and the first summit of the Organization of Turkic States expected to take place in Samarkand on 10-11 November.

But do you have enough information about the history of the Organization and its activities today?

Here are some interesting facts about the international organization which includes Turkic-speaking countries.

1. 1992 in Almaty was created "Department of United Turkic Language and Art" ;
2. 1998 "The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking States" was founded in Baku;
3. On October 3, 2009, the "Nakhchivan Agreement" was signed;
4. 2009- the activity of the international organisation "Turkic Council" was launched;
5. The main secretariat of the organisation is located in Istanbul, Turkey;
6. In 2012, the second summit of the organisation was held in Bishkek;
7. On 23 August 2012, its own symbolic flag of the Turkic Council was adopted;
8. Khalil Akıncı appointed as the Council's first Secretary General (2009-2014);
9. Ramil Hasanov second Secretary General (2014-2018);
10. Baghdad Amreyev third secretary general (2018-present);
11. On 30 April 2018, Uzbekistan was declared a member state of the Turkic Council;
12. On 12 September 2019, Uzbekistan officially became a member;
13. The city of Kokand is declared the tourist capital of the Turkic Council in 2021;
14. On 12 November 2021, Turkey hosted the VIII Summit of the Turkic Council of Cooperation of Turkic Speaking States;
15. In 2021, the name "Turkic Council" was changed to "Organisation of Turkic States".
