President: Potential must be turned into project and project into jobs

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on economic development of Kashkadarya region.

The event kicked off with a launching ceremony of 6 new enterprises. Representatives of companies Omad Start in Karshi district, Kitob Ip Yigiruv in Karshi, Bakht Textile in Dekhkanabad district, as well as Oksaroy Textile, Pit Stop and furniture factory in Shakhrisabz city presented information on these production facilities via a video link.

The Head of State pressed a symbolic button to launch the new plants and officially put them into operation.

The first item on the agenda of the meeting was the discussion of measures to improve the energy supply in the region.

This year, electricity consumption in the region is expected to total 6.9 billion kilowatt hours, and there may be a shortfall of 310 million kilowatt hours. A special resolution was adopted to deal with this issue and work has been started to make sure the energy shortfall is met.

The Head of State paid special attention to the issue of employment and pointed out opportunities in this direction.

It was stressed that clusters should be proactive in addressing employment and social issues in the mahallas.

"It is necessary to turn potentials in each district into projects and projects into jobs," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The underutilisation of the tourism potential of Shakhrisabz, Kitab, Kamashi and Yakkabag districts was pointed out. In this connection, a task has been set to increase the number of visitors by installing an electric train on the route "Shahrisabz - Karshi - Samarkand". This will be an additional impetus for development of tourism, trade and services.

Regional and district khokims, representatives of the older generation and the intelligentsia, businesspeople presented their proposals at the meeting.
