President puts forward initiatives in support of developing countries

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the plenary session of Voice of the Global South Summit on January 12, chaired online by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India.
President of Viet Nam Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President of Guyana Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of Mozambique Felipe Newsy, President of Senegal Macky Sall also participated in the event organized as part of India's G20 Presidency, Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Luvsannamsrayn Oyun-Erdene, Prime Minister of Mongolia, Prayuth Chan Ocha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and James Marape, Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea.
In line with the agenda, issues of human-centred sustainable development were discussed, views were exchanged and concrete proposals on deepening mutually beneficial cooperation to promote interests and address pressing issues of developing countries, including in the economy, environment, energy and food security, healthcare, human resource development, innovation, tourism and other areas.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his speech assessed the current trends in the international situation and shared his vision of the priority tasks facing the developing countries.
As the head of Uzbekistan stressed, the coronavirus pandemic, food and energy security and environmental problems have a negative impact on global development prospects.
India's active role and place in fostering mutually beneficial and productive relations with developing countries has been underscored.
In this context, it has been stated that in recent years the relations of strategic partnership and practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and India have reached a qualitatively new level and now serve the common interests of our two nations.
The President has stressed in particular that ensuring human interests in Uzbekistan has been defined as the most important goal and objective of the ongoing policy of irreversible reforms.
"The essence of our reform strategy is the rule of law and development of human capital, building a fair and strong civil society. We are facing a big task to ensure inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the near future, to reduce the level of poverty in the country by half," the head of our state noted.
Also, in order to ensure global peace and security, the head of our state called for support for the establishment of International Negotiating Group on Afghanistan, a proposal promoted by Uzbekistan.
He expressed confidence that the proposals and initiatives elaborated at the summit will serve to promote the interests of developing countries and achieve the human-centred Sustainable Development Goals.
In conclusion, the President of Uzbekistan expressed his sincere congratulations to the friendly people of India on the forthcoming bank holidays, Republic Day.
