Presidential elections in Turkiye will be held on June 18, 2023

According to the Minister of Justice of the country, Bekir Bozdag, the current President of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will also put forward his candidacy for a new term.

"Presidential elections in Turkiye will be held on June 18, 2023. This will be the second election in which our president (Recep Tayyip Erdogan) will participate," the minister said in an interview with Miliyet newspaper.

The opposition had previously said that Turkiye's current president could not participate in the elections, as it would be his third term. The head of the Ministry of Justice has repeatedly emphasized that the upcoming presidential elections will be the second election for Erdogan after Turkiye switched from parliamentary to presidential form of government in 2018.
