Presidents of Uzbekistan and Singapore hold bilateral meeting

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has held high-level talks with President of Singapore Halima Yacoub and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today, January 17, during a state visit to Singapore.
Prior to the Uzbek-Singapore summit, an official welcoming ceremony was held at the Istana Palace of the Singapore president. A guard of honour lined the square in front of the palace in honour of the distinguished guest. A military orchestra played the national anthems of the two countries.
The ceremony of naming a new variety of orchid flower, national symbol of Singapore, was held in honor of the President. Such events are traditionally held as a sign of high respect and esteem for high-ranking guests and renowned personalities of the country.
Following the tradition, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev put a plaque with the name of the new orchid - Shavkat Mirziyoyev Orchid - next to the flower. Afterwards, the presidents held a bilateral meeting.
The sides exchanged views on prospects of further deepening relations between Uzbekistan and Singapore and reforms in democratization of socio-political life.
Active cooperation in education has been noted with satisfaction. The Singapore Institute of Management Development and the Singapore Academy of Technology, Management and Communications work successfully in Tashkent.
The two sides discussed in detail the experience of the two countries in enhancing regional cooperation and integration in Central and Southeast Asia. Following the meeting, major directions of cooperation have been identified. Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Halima Yacoub to visit our country at a time convenient for her.
