Sadyk Safayev met with the EU representative for Central Asia

The first deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis S. Safoev met with the EU representative for Central Asia P. Burian on May 25.

The state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, including inter-parliamentary cooperation, were discussed.

During the meeting, P. Burian praised the work carried out in the country to improve state and public administration, the judicial system, targeted social protection of the population, strengthening security and reforming many areas. The election for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan as a member of the UN Human Rights Council was especially noted.

The parties exchanged views on the development of cooperation in the light of the adoption at the next plenary meeting of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly of the Resolution on the transformation of the Aral Sea region into a zone of environmental innovations and technologies.

The issues of the development of inter-parliamentary ties between the European Union and Uzbekistan were considered. It was noted that meetings of the Uzbekistan-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee are held on a regular basis. And at the end of April this year, for the first time in the European Parliament, the EU-Uzbekistan Friendship Group was established.

It was also noted that since April this year, Uzbekistan has received the status of a beneficiary country of the General System of Preferences Plus ("GSP +"), this will serve to further strengthen the Uzbek-European relations, especially in the trade and economic sphere.

The holding in June of this year in Bukhara of the International Forum of global inter-parliamentary cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals was considered.

The parties discussed the organization of the 15th meeting of the EU-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
