Saida Mirziyoyeva: "It is necessary to create a fully functioning mechanism in combating violence"

Today in Tashkent the UN Under-Secretary General, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva Tatyana Valovaya took part in the international conference "Institutionalization of Combating Violence. Creating Gender Sensitive Images in the Media".

Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Communications and Information Policy Sector of the Executive Office of the Presidential Administration, opened the conference with her speech.

"If I were asked what issue you have discussed most with your team over the past seven years, I would not hesitate to answer, issues of inequality and violence.

Why is this topic so important to us? Why are we constantly looking for a way out of this situation? We turn to international institutions, we ask for their help and we study their experience. We create project after project, we study the cause of the problems, but in my opinion, despite all our efforts, there have been no significant changes in this regard," said Saida Mirziyoyeva.

She also stressed in her speech that society should not tolerate violence:
"All our laws are based on equality, but we are very tolerant of violence. I think we should emphasize now that not only women but first of all the state itself is against all forms of violence."

At the same time, the Head of the Communications and Information Policy Sector of the Executive Office of the President noted the need to create a mechanism involving joint activities of state bodies, the non-governmental sector and the media to combat violence:
"It is time to consider domestic violence a real crime!
It is necessary to create a fully functioning mechanism at all stages of combating violence. This requires joint activities of all relevant ministries and agencies, as well as the non-governmental sector and the media."

The conference was also attended by international experts, members of the Oliy Majlis, members of governmental and non-governmental organizations, and representatives of the mass media.

For information, this international conference was organized by the Public Foundation for the Support and Development of National Mass Media with the support of the UN Population Fund.
