Samarkand has become a world-famous megalopolis

The president has come up with another important initiative. At present, there are 7 cities in Central Asia with population of over one million people. In our region, along with capitals, other major cities have emerged as growth points.

The cities of Samarkand and Namangan are among them. Each of them has a population of one million people.

The city of Samarkand has emerged as a world-renowned megalopolis, an international hub of tourism and business. Namangan is also finding its place as a regional centre for industry, entrepreneurship, education and culture.

Therefore, the cities of Samarkand and Namangan were proposed to be transferred to the subordination of the republic as separate administrative-territorial units.
