Scientists from the University of Houston have developed a vaccine against drug addiction

According to the Daily Mail, scientists from the University of Houston in the U.S. have developed the first vaccine against drug addiction.
This research could be a breakthrough in the fight against addiction. The developed vaccine blocked the drug from entering the brain of rats and was successful in preventing addiction.
When vaccinated with the vaccine, antibodies form in the patient's blood that inhibit the drug and prevent it from reaching the brain. Scientists in Houston used a drug, an immunogenic protein and a protein adjuvant in the vaccine. Six weeks after vaccinating the rats, it was confirmed that the drug was blocked from entering the brain. It was noted that the drug reduced the amount of drug in the rats' brains by a factor of ten.
In addition, no side effects were observed. It is not yet clear how stable the immunity induced by the vaccine is. Scientists monitor its effects for 10 weeks from the time of vaccination.
