Shanghai announces largest lockdown

In the Chinese city of Shanghai, against the backdrop of an outbreak of coronavirus COVID-19, the most massive lockdown in two years began on Monday.

The Shanghai lockdown will be divided into two phases. During the first phase, Shanghai's Pudong Economic Region and surrounding areas will be closed from Monday to Friday.

The second phase will begin on Friday, when the central part of Shanghai, west of the Huangpu River, will be closed for lockdown.

During these periods, residents will be required to stay at home, offices and businesses not considered essential will be closed, and public transport will be suspended. Also during the lockdown, the city will undergo mass testing for COVID-19.
