Tashkent airport will have several meet-and-greet areas

Uzbekistan Airports announces the construction of two meet and greet areas - in the car parks and at the arrivals terminal (with a canopy) of Tashkent International Airport.

Due to the rapid growth in passenger traffic, the area allocated in the arrivals terminal was insufficient for people coming to meet their family and friends.

"Since January 14, due to the abnormal cold weather, airports in the country have been allowed to let meet people in the terminal building. As I said earlier, the arrivals hall, built in 2018, is not up to world standards, there is simply no area for greeters. Within days, we installed glass partitions to separate the customs area from the welcome area. The 400 square metre area was very small for the number of people who came to meet someone at the airport every day. The feeling of crowding created discomfort both for the meeters themselves and for the passengers who had to make their way through the 'live' corridor. There were complaints from passengers and censure from security. All this time we have been working on the design of a new welcome area. But now we have realized that construction alone will not save the situation," said Rano Jurayeva, chairman of Uzbekistan Airports.

Tentatively, by the end of March, two such zones with a total area of about 1,400 square meters will be built - one in place of the existing canopy, the other - in the P2 car park between the departure and arrival gates. Construction and installation work on the station square is already scheduled to begin shortly.
