Tashkent and Samarkand have been given a new status within the CIS

At the meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers held today, Tashkent was declared the youth capital of the CIS countries in 2024, and Samarkand was declared the cultural capital.

”This is a vivid evidence of Uzbekistan's active participation in our cooperation within the CIS," said the Secretary General of the organization Sergey Lebedev.

In addition, it was decided at the meeting that the Belarusian city of Minsk will become the CIS sports center in 2023, and the Armenian city of Gyumri in 2024.

This year, the Russian city of St. Petersburg receives the status of the cultural capital.
