The chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan approved a seven-year presidential term

Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan (Upper House of Parliament) Maulen Ashimbaev said that he supports the initiative of the head of the Republic, Kasym-Jomart Tokaev, to introduce a one-time seven-year presidential term.
“I am in favor of the introduction of a seven-year presidential term so that a citizen of our country can be elected president in one term. This will make it possible to develop political competition in our republic, and we will have taken a serious step towards the formation of Democratic political proportions.”
According to Ashimbaev, this norm further limits the accumulation of power in Kazakhstan in the hands of one person.
"Seven years is enough for the implementation of our pre-election program, the fulfillment of promises made separately, the implementation of a number of large projects for the country. This project is part of the political reform program in Kazakhstan. This will make it possible to remove power from the monopoly,” said the chairman of the Senate.
