The Constitution of Turkmenistan can be changed, and the unicameral parliament can be returned

According to the "Chronicle of Turkmenistan", the former President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov once again proposed to change the Constitution, return the unicameral parliament — the Mejlis, and make the People's Council the highest representative body again.

The proposal was put forward by Berdimuhamedov on January 11 at a joint meeting of members of both chambers of the National Council (Parliament), explaining that it was necessary to "improve the legislative body based on real demands of time."

It was noted that the People's Council includes Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov, his son Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the head of the Mejlis, the Chairman of the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General and others.

The People's Council will be able to approve amendments to the Constitution of Turkmenistan, directions of domestic and foreign policy, approve development programs of the country, consider issues of security and peace.
