The death toll in Turkiye and Syria has topped 33,000

The death toll from the earthquake that hit the south of the country reached 29,605 as of yesterday, 12 February, while the number of injured reached 147,934, according to the Turkish Emergency Management Agency (AFAD). In Syria, 3,574 people were killed.

In addition, some 6,500 structures have been found to have been destroyed by the earthquake, which Turkiye is calling "the catastrophe of the century".
