The EBRD will provide a grant of 7 million euros

According to the information service of the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, Uzbekistan signed a grant agreement with the EBRD in the amount of 7 million euros. On September 1, the signing ceremony of this Agreement took place at the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London.

The report notes that between the Chairman of the Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection of Uzbekistan Narzullo Mamurodov and the Director of the Department of Nuclear Safety of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Balthazar Lindauer, an agreement was signed on the implementation of a grant project to support Uzbekistan's efforts to reclaim the special landfills Chorkesar and Yangiabad.

In addition, in 2021, the first agreement was signed between the State Committee for Ecology and the EBRD in the amount of 2 million euros for the provision of advisory assistance. The grant project for a total amount of 9 million euros will be financed by the bank through a special Environmental Account Fund for Environmental Remediation for Central Asia.

Within the framework of the grant project, during 2022-2025, activities will be carried out for environmental rehabilitation and reclamation of special areas. Reclamation work is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2023 and be completed in about two years.

It was also reported that the EBRD will assist in the development of a program to reduce methane emissions in Uzbekistan.
