The essence and content of the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality

On June 4, 2021, under the leadership of the Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Women and Gender Equality M.Kadirkhanova, an event in the format of a video conference was held on the topic "Strategy for achieving gender equality - essence and content."

Over the past few years, a lot has been done to achieve gender equality in Uzbekistan. At the fifteenth meeting of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Strategy for achieving gender equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 was considered, at the event Senator M.Kadirkhanova explained the essence and content of the strategy.

As noted, the share of women in leadership positions has reached 27%. In 81 ministries and departments, more than 15 thousand personnel reserves have been formed, consisting of advanced and educated women.

In order to provide socio-economic support to women, to carry out targeted work with them, the “women's notebook” system was introduced. Also, for the development of women's entrepreneurship, more than 224 thousand women have been allocated concessional loans in the amount of 6.9 trillion soums, the People's Bank is assigned to them, centers for women's entrepreneurship have been established in 14 regions.

The Chairperson of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Women and Gender Equality M.Kadirkhanova noted that the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 is remarkable in that it was developed on the basis of the relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Law "On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men ”in accordance with the long-term goals and priorities of the country established in the Action Strategy for the five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This document provides for a comprehensive approach to the implementation of the principle of equality between women and men in all spheres and levels of decision-making and implementation.

The strategy will also contribute to the advancement of gender equality in economic, political and social life in order to create conditions for the realization of equal rights and opportunities for men and women, as well as the observance of fundamental human rights.
