The Japanese government has doubled the number of islands owned by the country

The number of islands belonging to the country in Japan has doubled, according to Kyudo News Agency. The number of islands in Japan has increased from 6,852 to 14,125, a local water survey conducted for the first time in 35 years shows.
It is noted that the survey was based on an automated study of an electronic version of a map of Japan approved by the authorities last year. The data obtained was compared with aerial photographs of the past. The final list includes islands over 100 metres in diameter.
