The number of tourists in Uzbekistan has increased 2.5 times in three years

Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Studies (FMIS) experts analysed the results of reforms carried out in recent years in Uzbekistan's tourism sector.

Tourism has become one of the "points of growth" of the national economy. It serves as a driving force for the development of other tourism-related sectors and for increasing revenues with a high multiplier effect. Tourism is also an important factor for job creation in the Uzbek context.

Thanks to tourism development efforts, the number of tourists has increased 2.5 times in three years. While in 2017 their number was 2.7 million, in 2019 it reached 6.7 million. In 2020, 1.5 million people came to our country because of the pandemic and in 2021 about 1.9 million foreign tourists.

Tourism exports in 2020 were 370 million USD and in 2021 the figure rose by 15.1 per cent to 422.1 million USD. A total of 4.5 million tourists are expected to arrive in 2022, which will significantly increase exports of tourism services
