The prospects for the trade and industrial policy of the region were discussed in Samarkand

Within the framework of the Economic Forum of Uzbekistan – 2022, a round table was held on the topic “Trade and industrial policy”. The meeting also discussed the prospects for improving industrial policy and liberalization of trade, strengthening ties with international organizations and investors, integration into regional and World Trade Agreements.

It was attended by Deputy Minister of investment and foreign trade Badriddin Abidov, First Deputy Minister of Finance Omonulla Nasritdinhodjaev, Chairman of the Board of Navoi mining and Metallurgical Combine Kuvondik Sanakulov, Regional Manager of Agrico Firuza Tatybaeva, trade and regional integration practice manager of the World Bank Antonio Nutsifora, experts from the European bank for reconstruction and development and Asian Development Bank.

The round table examined the impact of the pandemic and ongoing geopolitical processes on the region's economy. To overcome the problems, it was noted the need to maintain stability, increase the share of products with high added value, as well as diversify export markets and strengthen the position in the digital economy.

Participants highly appreciated Uzbekistan's reforms aimed at trade liberalization and success in the negotiation process of WTO membership, further simplifying trade procedures and entering foreign markets and increasing the level of investment potential, forming high value-added chains, introducing a new industrial system, implementing policies in the field of competition and developing Priority Sectors based on competitive advantages, they noted the importance of continuing work on the development of the transport and logistics services market.
