Türkiye closes airspace to Sulaymaniyah

The Turkish government has closed airspace to planes flying to or from Sulaymaniyah in Iraq. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

“Since April 3, Turkish airspace has been closed to aircraft taking off and landing at Sulaimaniyah International Airport, Iraq. This decision was taken in connection with the intensification of the activities of the PKK terrorist organization in Sulaymaniyah,” the official statement said.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that there is a threat of PKK members entering the airport building and, accordingly, flights.

This ban is valid until July 3 and may be extended depending on the situation in Sulaymaniyah. He added that Ankara is closely monitoring the situation.
