Turkish President has changed the name of the national airline

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish President, has announced that the Turkish national airline, Turkish Airlines, will be renamed “Turkiye Hava Yollari”.

In early June, Ankara sent a letter to the United Nations, officially registering the country's name as “Türkiye” in Turkish. The country changed its name to "Turkey" after independence in 1923.

The United Nations and NATO have officially started using the word “Türkiye” instead of "Turkey." The President said the name better reflects Turkish culture and values.
