Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrives in Samarkand

The President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in Samarkand to attend the summit of the Organization of Turkic States.

The Turkish leader was met at the international airport of Samarkand by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdullah Aripov.

It is worth noting that the first Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (then called the Turkic Council) was appointed Halil Akinci of Turkiye, who was active from 2009 to 2014.

On November 12, 2021, at the VIII summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, held on Democracy and Freedom Island near Istanbul, Turkiy, the President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that the name "Turkish Council" will be changed to "Organization of Turkic States".

It is worth noting that Uzbekistan and Turkiye have been actively developing ties in trade and investment spheres in recent years. In particular, in recent years, mutual trade has increased 2.5 times and exceeded 3.6 billion dollars. The number of joint ventures increased five times and exceeded 2 thousand. Indicators of investment cooperation grew 70 times.

In order to further develop bilateral cooperation, the parties focus on the priority directions of further expanding partnership, including in such areas as trade and economy, investment, transport, textile, energy, agriculture, cultural and humanitarian exchange.
