Under-fire Ukraine: Population is falling victim to politics

Early this morning, just before sunrise, the Russian army began firing on Ukrainian territory. By noon, Russian troops had entered Ukrainian-controlled areas directly, occupying at least two settlements.

The attacks targeted airports, air bases, military units and ammunition depots in at least five Ukrainian regions, including those adjacent to the capital, Kiev.

Russian missiles are hitting civilian targets in the Kharkiv and Kiev regions. At the moment, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said that the first casualties were among the civilian population.

Ukraine's border guards say Belarusian troops are assisting the Russian army in the northern part of the attack. There are unconfirmed reports that tanks have crossed the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
