Unusual underwater parking for 7,000 bicycles

Problems with bicycle parking near Amsterdam Central Station, the Netherland capital, have led to the construction of an underwater car park for 7,000 bicycles. The car park, scheduled to open on 26 January, is the result of a four-year, €60 million project.

It is reported that there are now cases of many rusty bicycles being abandoned by their owners all over the city. To solve this problem, bikes can be left free for 24 hours, and after 24 hours for an additional fee of €1.35.

It is worth noting that there are red and green indicators to indicate available spaces, and from April, a dynamic system will begin to show passengers how many spaces are available in which bicycle parking space.

P.S. The 835,000 residents of Amsterdam cycle an average of 665,000 times a day, which is 36 per cent of all journeys in the city. For cars, the figure is only 24 per cent.
